University of Saskatchewan Academic Health Sciences B Wing Renovations

Location: Saskatoon, SK

This project was the full renovation of one wing of the existing Health Sciences Building on the University of Saskatchewan campus. It consisted of the full demolition, asbestos abatement, and renovation of four 10,500 sf floors and an additional 6000 sf of hallway and lobby spaces. It also involved the demolition of the existing roof so a new two-storey mechanical penthouse, approximately 10,500 sf, could be constructed on top of the existing wing.

The final renovation provided lecture theatres, classroom spaces, anatomy labs, food research and preparation labs, and a research lab. This project took place in the middle of the building while 4 of the 5 surrounding wings remained in normal operation. Special considerations were made to maintain public safety and access throughout the construction process and additional measures were taken ensure the mechanical and electrical services were maintained as to not interrupt ongoing research and comfort of the users. Several sustainability initiatives were also put into place and 83% of all waste had been diverted from the landfill at the completion of the project.
