Rosthern School

Location: Rosthern, SK

This project entailed the construction of a new K-12 community school in Rosthern, SK. The new school replaced the existing elementary and high schools in the town, both of which were approximately 70 years old. Amalgamating the populations of both the existing elementary and high schools, this new school will meet the increasing demand for a high-quality learning experience.

The scope of work included construction of a new two-storey, 68,986 ft2 (6,409m2) building complete with parking, landscaping and school playing fields. It is comprised of the following components: structural slab, steel frame, brick and metal siding exterior, flat roof, wood gym floor (main gym), athletic floor (second gym and weight room) and terrazzo hallways.

The project was unique in that all ages of students have their specific areas for classes and learning while being attached to all of the other age groups through the common areas of the school. Common use gyms, stages, resource center, administration, and playing fields make the design very efficient and useful for all students. A SERT classroom and special area were constructed with lift and track, as well as a washroom to accommodate students/staff with special needs. There is also a 30-space child care centre incorporated into the building.
