Frontier Collegiate Dormitory

Location: Winnipeg, MB

In this project, it was important that construction be durable and robust, yet still convey a “home away from home” feeling for the students. Utilizing construction materials requiring only minor maintenance (e.g., brick and pre-cast walls, hollow-core/concrete floor construction), Graham provided a rigid building, while utilizing interior design elements such as wood materials in the bedrooms, creating a warm, relaxing environment for the students.

The construction site operated 7 days a week, 12 hours a day throughout the entire project duration. There were no lost days due to cold weather: Even though this was the coldest Manitoba winter in 100 years, Graham’s dedicated labor force persevered, and the site was only shut down on December 24 and 25, and January 1 for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
