Schmidt Apartments

Schmidt Apartments was rehabilitated with a private developer to bring the owner’s vision of an adaptive reuse of the building without modifying the historic structure. The building has been adapted into contemporary urban loft apartments, with a future street level restaurant. 

Redeveloping a historic building from the early 1900s presented challenges. The renovation included installation of new operating systems required to meet current building codes. Maintaining the historic character of the building was important to the client, hence the exposed brick and other architectural features. This redevelopment represents how preservation and reuse of an existing iconic, historically significant building adds to a downtown neighborhood.
