Last week employees from both Seattle Buildings and Infrastructure hosted a charity golf tournament for ROOTS – a young adult shelter that partners with local homeless youth ages 18-25 to provide safe, overnight housing.
According to ROOTS, the vast majority of homeless youth come through three principal channels:
- Kids in foster care that reach age 18 and are no longer eligible for care in Washington. They’re forced out and end up on the street a staggering 40% of the time.
- LGBTQIA+ kids kicked out of their homes by their parents when they come out.
- Juvenile detention cases where kids are aged out of the facility and have no skills to enter the workforce.
In the spirit of One Graham, the team started weekly planning from November 2023 until the day of the event. Equal representation from both divisions ensured a broad coalition of trade partners that will lead to durability of the event in the future.
In total, our incredible team in Seattle raised over $63,000 to support ROOTS! Amazing job team!
