Quileute Tribal School
Location: La Push, WA
This 60,950 sf progressive design-build project is a K12 single-story school that features a classroom for every grade, special education, gifted, science, arts, library, music, vocational education (woodshop/carpentry), language therapy rooms, resource rooms, administrative space, a full-size high school gym, kitchen, exterior community courtyard, mechanic shop for servicing the school buses, and full size multi-sport fields.
Most of the Tribe’s land is located within the tsunami and flood hazard zone. With an average of 130” of rainfall in La Push per year (compared to Seattle’s average of 40” per year), the school utilized CLT for ease of construction in this extremely wet environment.
