Poplar Centre
Location: Calgary, AB
Poplar Centre comprised the new construction of a mixed-use development with commercial retail and medical office space. The main building is three storeys above grade with one level of underground parking. A separate 1,600-square-foot, drive-thru Starbucks was also constructed in the west corner of the site.
Prior to construction, existing structures – including a car dealership and car wash – on the site underwent asbestos abatement and demolition. A shoring wall was installed to protect the remaining facilities and allow for the bulk excavations for the parkade.
The project was located adjacent to one of the city’s main arteries, and on a busy corner surrounded by dense commercial and residential development.
Pre-Construction services took place over 12 months. Included was the provision for detailed cost and design analysis, working with the owner to value engineer the project within the parameters of the budget and tenant requirements.
