CPR bridge rehabilitation in Red Deer, AB awarded to Graham

February 14, 2025

Graham is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the CPR Pedestrian Bridge Rehabilitation project in Red Deer, Alberta.

As the General Contractor for this bridge rehabilitation, Graham will oversee construction, which is scheduled to begin in February 2025 and is expected to be completed by August 2026.

The project aims to restore the historic CPR Pedestrian Bridge over the Red Deer River. With the bridge now over 100 years old, many of its components have deteriorated, necessitating rehabilitation to ensure safety and longevity.

Key rehabilitation work includes

  • Reconstruction of the timber trestle
  • Replacement of concrete foundations
  • Repair and replacement of corroded steel truss elements
  • Removal of existing lead paint and repainting of steel trusses
  • Replacement of the timber deck with a new concrete surface
  • Installation of upgraded pedestrian-level lighting on and around the bridge
  • Public realm improvements

This project will enhance the bridge’s safety, accessibility, and long-term viability while preserving its historic character. Graham looks forward to delivering this important rehabilitation effort in collaboration with the City of Red Deer.
