Keswick Water Pollution Control Plant Expansion

Location: Georgina, ON

The expansion at the Keswick Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) provides the residents of the Town of Georgina and the Region of York with tertiary treatment of the effluent discharged from the facility. The new structures and equipment also provide a significant capacity increase over the existing primary and secondary treatment facilities with allowances for future expansion.

The project consisted of construction of the following structures and their related equipment: a new headworks building, including two vortex grit removal chambers; a new generator building and substation; a new aeration tank; two new secondary clarifiers; a new RAS/WAS pumping station; a new Microscreening (reverse osmosis filtration) and UV treatment building; a new odour control biofilter; upgrades to the equipment in the existing aeration tanks; upgrades to the equipment in the existing clarifiers; modifications to the existing administration building, including removal of the existing chlorine facility; and modifications to the existing sludge handling facility.

The construction was carried out in multiple stages to ensure that the operations of the existing plant were uninterrupted; ensuring that construction did not impact the quality of the discharged water.
