Green Line LRT Calgary (YYC)

Location: Calgary, AB

This project is part of the early works for the Green Line LRT Phase 1 Project in Calgary, AB, the largest infrastructure investment in the city’s history. Before building the Ogden LRT station and tracks, the 78 Avenue Project will complete a grade separation and vehicle and pedestrian tunnels under the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) railway corridor to enhance mobility and pedestrian safety for the future station area and make way for main construction.

THE SELECTION OF GRAHAM

The City of Calgary (Green Line LRT Program) stated in their press release that “…Graham brings its extensive experience from major infrastructure projects across North America to the Green Line LRT Project.”

GRAHAM’S SCOPE

As General Contractor, Graham will construct a railway overpass or a grade separation structure at 78 Avenue S.E. allowing an extension of 78 Avenue SE underneath the CPKC mainline. This will enable vehicular traffic to access the industrial area east of the CPKC right-of-way. Following the opening of the 78 Avenue SE CPKC overpass to the public, the at-grade crossing at 69 Avenue S.E. will be closed permanently. The other component of this project is to construct a Pedestrian Tunnel from the future Ogden station to the east side of the CPKC right-of-way and Ogden Dale Rd S.E. With approximately 26 trains per day operating on CPKC’s main line, this complex enabling works project will reduce project and schedule risk as Green Line prepares for main LRT construction.

Associated work includes new storm sewer connections (catch basins and sewers) to the existing storm sewer system along Ogden Road S.E. and 78 Avenue S.E. In addition, a concrete storm duct is proposed on the east side of Ogden Dale Road S.E. to support the new road works. Additionally, updated street lighting and associated electrical infrastructure along 78 Avenue S.E. will be undertaken, as well as installation of new street lighting and electrical infrastructure along Ogden Dale Road S.E. Landscaping of disturbed areas including the planting of new trees and vegetation will also be completed.
