Dawson Creek and District Hospital

Location: Dawson Creek, BC

The Dawson Creek and District Hospital is a 263,000 sq. ft. facility set to be constructed on a greenfield site, serving as a replacement for the current hospital. This three-story hospital will house an emergency department equipped with 15 treatment spaces, 70 inpatient beds offering medical, surgical, maternity, high acuity, and mental health services. Additionally, it will feature 2 operating rooms, a procedure room, diagnostic imaging, a chemotherapy area, a perinatal unit comprising labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum rooms, a nursery, mental health department, academic and teaching space, along with pharmacy services. The facility is being designed to meet LEED Gold certification standards.

Situated in Treaty 8 territory, the traditional lands of the Beaver, Cree, Saulteau, Sicannie (Sikanni), and Slavey peoples, this new state-of-the-art Hospital is dedicated to catering to a diverse population. It will primarily serve the communities of Dawson Creek, Pouce Coupe, Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge, Fort St. John, Hudson’s Hope, and Fort Nelson. Moreover, it will extend its services to the First Nations communities including Blueberry River First Nation, Doig River First Nation, Fort Nelson First Nation, Halfway River First Nation, Kelly Lake, Prophet River First Nation, Saulteau First Nations, and West Moberly First Nations. Additionally, it aims to support Métis, Inuit, and urban Indigenous populations within the Peace Region of Treaty 8 territory.
