CDOT I-70 West Bound Peak Period Should Lane

Location: Denver, CO

Rapid growth in Colorado has caused major road congestion issues especially during peak periods. During the 2016 winter and summer seasons, a combined 2.1 million vehicles traveled the I-70 Mountain Corridor. The peak periods for the project area are on Friday afternoons, weekends and holiday mornings. This project adds a 12-mile tolled westbound peak-period shoulder lane between the Veterans Memorial Tunnels (MP 243) and the US Highway 40 and I-70 Interchange (Exit 232). Work includes: resurface and widen select areas to make room for the peak period shoulder lane, rock fall mitigation, pull-outs, interchange work, and drainage improvements.
