Bridge Rehabilitation on PTH 8
Location: Winnipeg, MB
This project, inclusive of both Southbound and Northbound Overpass structures, required the removal of the top 100 to 150 mm of surface concrete from a 600 mm thick post tensioned bridge deck spanning six lanes of high-volume traffic below, utilizing hydro demolition removal allowing for existing reinforcing to remain unharmed; additional demolition and removal of bridge curbs, fascia, and deck soffit; selective demolition of bridge piers in order to pour new struts/barriers; hydraulic jacking of bridge ends, and installation of temporary supports to keep the bridge suspended during selective abutment demolition and rehabilitation; coordination of major traffic changes; stringent safety procedures working over live traffic (demolition, formwork, etc.); installation of new concrete soffit/fascia using a very fluid concrete mixture (Agilia) and pressure grouting; installation of new concrete bridge deck inside an enclosed temporary coverall structure; install new transition and approach slabs.
