Aquatera Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades Phase II

Location: Grande Prairie, AB

Graham was contracted to upgrade and expand the existing biological liquid treatment and sludge handling processes. This required construction of two new secondary clarifiers and associated pipe gallery / electrical building, demolition of existing secondary clarifier, construction of two new bioreactor trains and shutdown and upgrades to the existing bioreactor train.

As part of the project, Graham also installed a new rotary drum thickener, centrifuge, and polymer system to enhance the plants existing sludge handling processes. A new power generation building was also designed to supply primary & emergency power to the entire site, as well as feed excess power back to the grid.

The plant remained fully operational throughout the duration of the project, which saw Graham self-performed 8,500 m3 of concrete work. This project significantly increased the overall capacity of the plant and improved the quality of the effluent being discharged back into the river.
