Paving Our Way to Success

Graham’s Omaha team paved its way to a major award with the Nebraska Concrete Paving Association (NCPA) Urban Streets Award for the 192nd Street Improvements – Dodge St to Pacific St Project. The NCPA panel consists of members of the Nebraska Department of Transportation, Portland Cement Association, NCPA, and engineering firms. This USD$9M street improvement project paved over 40,000 sq. yds. of concrete in a six-lane urban section with a 34-foot median between Harney Street and West Dodge Road utilizing deceleration lanes to tie into the existing four-lane section just north of the West Dodge access ramps.

Although seemingly straightforward, the project had multiple constraints. Graham led the coordination of multiple construction accesses to adjacent projects, utility relocations, and maintained traffic on 192nd Street throughout construction. Our team also coordinated utility relocations with the Omaha Public Power District to remove overhead power lines and an underground duct line concurrently with paving operations to complete one half of the roadway in its entirety improving quality and smoothness.

By utilizing stringless paver technology and an AutoCAD Civil 3D surface to control tolerances, Graham’s team could focus on control point accuracy, material delivery, and quality control for air entrainment and slump consistency. This focus to delivering the final product was key to the project’s success.
