Graham was recently awarded the Design Early Works Agreement for the Stuart Lake Hospital Redevelopment project, located in the community of Fort St. James, BC. This project is Infrastructure BC’s first progressive design-build and has a total project value of CDN$116 million.
The new hospital will house 27 beds, including 18 long-term care beds. It is a much-needed investment as the surrounding area consists of close to 300,000 residents, including the Indigenous communities of the Takla Lake First Nation, Tl’azt’en Nation, Binche Whut’en First Nation, Nak’azdli Whut’en, and Yekooche First Nation.
The hospital will consolidate services currently being offered in Fort St. James into one location, reducing the distance patients and staff need to go for diagnostic imaging and lab services. It will be home to physicians, visiting specialists, substance-use supports, home and community care, and public health.
The new hospital will be built on the same site as the existing one. Once complete, the existing facility will be demolished. Design will begin immediately with construction slated to start in March 2022, following a successful execution of the Design Build Agreement.
