In honour of National Indigenous Peoples Day on Sunday, June 21, we were pleased to host Jerry Saddleback Jr. of the Maskwacis First Nation for a traditional hoop dancing performance.
National Indigenous Peoples Day is an opportunity for Canadians to recognize, celebrate and reflect on the unique heritage, diverse cultures and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. For many generations, Indigenous peoples and communities have celebrated their culture and heritage on or near this day due to the significance of the summer solstice as the longest day of the year.
Our Indigenous partnerships are a key component of our business and we’re proud of the relationships we have built. For over twenty years, we’ve worked alongside Indigenous communities providing expertise, financial support and training, so that the communities could benefit from the development of infrastructure within their traditional territories. What began with one successful limited partnership with a group of Saskatchewan Dene First Nations has grown into a host of powerful agreements with Indigenous communities across the Western Canadian provinces. While each of these agreements vary in the way they are structured, they are built and maintained on the same Indigenous principles with the goal of developing a strong, sustainable business that provides skills training, satisfying jobs, community support and leave a legacy that endures.
