Castle Rock Ridge Wind Power Project

The 76 MW Castle Rock Wind Power Plant consisted of 33 Enercon E-70 (2.3 kW) turbines plus access roads, underground collectors, foundations, and substation construction. The access road scope included the design and construction of approximately 12km (7.5 miles) of permanent access roads, including significant rock excavation, drainage crossings, and a few intersection improvements.

The collection system included 18.2km (11.3 miles) of underground collection cable trench, and 9.3km (5.8 miles) of 750 kcmil home run collection enhanced to provide best overall value. The foundations were completed using three efficient spread footing designs, which included both buoyant and non-buoyant designs. The foundations for this project range in diameter from 14.8m to 19.1m (48.5 feet to 62.6 feet). The substation successfully incorporated the requirements of the utility, as well as the client’s preferred standard equipment.
