Adelaide Wind Power Project

The Adelaide Wind Power Project is a 40MW wind power facility that was constructed near Strathroy Ontario as part of the Ontario Power Authority’s Feed-in Tariff Program. The project consisted of 18 – Siemens 2.3MW wind turbines. The power produced by the turbines is routed to a 34.5kV/115kV substation via three underground circuits and is fed into the Hydro One transmission network from there.

Graham’s scope of work included construction of approximately 14km of granular access roads, temporary turnarounds and laydown areas, reinforced concrete spread footing foundations (>400m³ each), installation of one MET tower and foundation, public intersection improvements, and offloading, installation and electrical wiring of the 100m high turbines, pad-mount transformers and disconnect switches. Ancillary work that was included with the turbine installation was the installation of service lifts and navigation lights.

Graham was also responsible for the construction of a shared-use office/laydown yard and handling owner-supplied equipment. A key part of the civil work scope was coordinating the locates, repairs and upgrades to the existing field drain tile system.

Due to the requirements of the Ontario Power Authority’s Feed-in Tariff Program, Graham was required to meet a minimum of 97% Ontario labor content for the project.
