Quileute Tribal School
Location: La Push, WA
The Quileute Tribal School project is a remarkable endeavor in progressive design-build, spanning an expansive 60,950 sqft. This single-story K-12 school design encompasses a classroom dedicated to each grade level, ensuring an optimal learning environment for every student. It also includes specialized areas for special education, gifted programs, science, arts, library, music, and vocational education, including a woodshop/carpentry space.
Administrative spaces are strategically incorporated into the design, serving as the nerve center of the school’s operations. The school proudly boasts a full-size high school gymnasium, a kitchen, an exterior community courtyard, and a mechanic shop for servicing school buses. Ample space is dedicated to full-size multi-sport fields.
The location of the Quileute Tribe’s land within the tsunami and flood hazard zone posed unique challenges. To address these concerns, Mass Timber (cross-laminate timber ‘CLT’) was chosen as the construction material of choice.
