YVR Airside Operations Building
Location: Richmond, British Columbia
The Airside Operations Building (AOB) at the Vancouver International Airport is a 90,000ft2 post-disaster facility that serves as a flagship hub for airside operations teams and a staging area for all airside maintenance activities at the airport. The facility is located in the middle of the western airfield between the Domestic and International Terminals and has service interconnections that extend across four taxiways to utility sources at the terminal.
The AOB provides office, maintenance, training, storage, and emergency response capacity to various user groups forming the airside operations team. The three-storey facility includes a fire hall, fully equipped maintenance shop, office space, training rooms, fitness centre and tenant space. The facility also houses an Airfield Material Storage Building comprising both wet and dry chemical storage, fuel storage/dispensing stations, as well as a vehicle and equipment washing facility.
All airfield maintenance equipment is now stored and protected from elements and ready to use in the new indoor parking garage. The AOB is equipped with advanced data, communication, emergency power and security systems providing capacity to serve as a backup airport operations centre.
